Kamik’s Sustainability Initiatives

For starters, here at Kamik, sustainable manufacturing is more than what we do. It’s a significant part of who we are. We hold sustainable practices to the highest of standards and will continue to innovate to ensure that we uphold the highest standards for sustainable practices for years to come. Following is a list of initiatives that impact how we manufacture our Canadian-made products.

Lean Manufacturing Approach

We, here at Kamik, see the value in offering competitive production whilst still taking into consideration the materials we use. That’s why we’ve opted for a circular economy. A circular economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose) in which we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life.

We’ve opted for one of the smartest and most eco-friendly approaches to production. This sustainable manufacturing strategy aims to continuously improve our manufacturing methods by reducing time and physical waste. In this approach the people who produce, assemble and have the know-how are the employees.

Zero Waste Target in Our Plants

Another effort we are proud to incorporate in our manufacturing is in regards to the waste we produce. Our production plants utilize a low consumption process thanks to hydroelectricity, water reuse and 100% material waste recycling system that ensures a zero waste target.

North American Production

We are a proud Canadian company and that extends to our production. That being said, 73% of our products are made in North America. Heritage aside, this enables us to reduce CO₂ emissions due to freight transportation.

The Use of Recycled Materials

Our winter boot replacement liners are made from 98-100% recycled content. For every pair you purchase, you help give a new life to a minimum of 3 plastic water bottles; for a total of approximately 3 million water bottles a year. Also, whenever you purchase Kamik products, you can rest assured that our packaging is made from 100% recycled and recyclable products. This saves the equivalent of 132 cars’ CO₂ emissions per year.

Recycling Program

And finally, an initiative we’d wholeheartedly love everyone of our Kamik customers to take a part in: our recycling program. Once you’re ready to change boots, we’d like you to mail in your old rubber and winter boots to the address below. These boots will then be used in order to produce brand new pair. In one year, Kamik recycles enough rubber to make the equivalent of 150 000 black rain boots.
